Woodhouse Events
Careers insight Evening (October)
The event brings together panels of alumni at various stages of their careers to explore the diverse paths into their industries. Organised by sectors such as law, media and creative, finance, and engineering, this insightful event offers students and parents a chance to gain valuable career advice and hear firsthand from alumni who once stood where they are now.
Introduction to HE Afternoon (November)
All Year 12 students are invited to an afternoon dedicated to exploring higher education and apprenticeships. With over 100 sessions arranged, the event features engaging workshops by universities, alumni and apprenticeship providers. The three day event is designed to help students discover what they can do in their first year to set themselves up for future applications and opportunities.
Careers Fair – National Careers Week
Our annual careers fair brings together over 30 employers and apprenticeship providers offering students from both year groups the chance to network with a wide range of organisations. To complement the week, we also host CV workshops, interview practice sessions, and LinkedIn training to help students build essential career skills.
Next Steps Week – UCAS and apprenticeships
Building on the Introduction to HE, our Next Steps Week offers an incredible lineup of over 100 masterclasses and workshops led by alumni, universities and apprenticeships providers. With taster lectures from institutions like the University of Manchester, Exeter, and more, the week provides students with invaluable insights into their areas of interest, helping them make confident, informed decisions about their future.
Work Place Visits
Our students have the opportunity to gain experience of the workplace through workplace visits. From attending trips at local business including Pentland and BKL, we have also taken students to the BBC and n new large property development on Bishops Avenue in partnership with WATES.
University Visits
Students have the opportunity to visit universities during their second year at Woodhouse. In June of last year, around 150 students experienced life at two different universities on our residential university trips. They explored campus universities, cities, and the countryside, while also hearing from the university ambassadors, lecturers and students. They were also able to meet new friends and enjoy a night at a youth hostel.
On the first trip students visited University of Birmingham and University of Warwick and enjoyed time exploring Stratford-Upon-Avon. The following week, one group visited Royal Holloway and Sussex University and another, University of Bath and University of Bristol, enjoying free time in Brighton and Bath respectively.
One student commented: “Both visits were insightful, and it has definitely changed my mind about what universities I want to apply to.”
Another student said: “I found the trip useful to be able to continue to narrow down the course I could take at uni. I also liked being able to spend time with friends.”
