Additional Learning Support (ALS)

 
ALS is a support service for students with a range of additional needs. We can provide support for students who have learning difficulties, disabilities or medical conditions. ALS at Woodhouse College is here to help students maximise their potential and succeed on their A level programme of study.
 
We offer a wide range of support to help give students every opportunity to do well in their studies once they are enrolled.  Support can be provided for students with:
 
  • Dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia and dyspraxia
  • Attention deficit (hyperactivity) disorder (ADHD) (ADD)
  • Sensory impairments
  • Autism spectrum conditions
  • Physical disabilities and medical conditions 
  • Mental health
Additional Learning Support Team
 
Our team of dedicated staff are experienced and knowledgeable, and are available to offer support to enable students to make the best of their time at Woodhouse.
 
We offer a range of support services to facilitate the best possible learning environment for students.  These include:
 
  • One to one out of class support: individual study support tailored to a student’s specific difficulty or disability.
  • Small group and workshop support.
  • Access to a range of assistive technologies and specialist equipment.
  • Exam Access Arrangements.
  • Adapted learning materials.
Referrals
 
Referrals can be made via our application form or by emailing [email protected]
 
Once we have received a referral, we will invite students for an initial assessment. During the initial assessment we will discuss students’ support needs, what support was previously in place and the type of support we could offer. We ask students to provide evidence of their need for support.
 
The support we offer will be different for every student and will depend on individual needs. Criteria for support depends on the degree of need and evidence of a learning difficulty or disability. Support will be regularly reviewed throughout a student’s time at Woodhouse College.
